About Fireplace Facts

Fireplace Facts is an independent guide for homeowners trying to answer practical questions: Can I burn tonight? Which stove should I buy? Do I have to pull out my old stove to sell my house? We started it because those answers are scattered across government databases, air-district rule books and sales pages, and most "best stove" lists don't show their work.

How we research

  1. Start from the official source. Every stove number comes from the EPA's certification tests. Every burn rule is read on the website of the agency that enforces it.
  2. Check our copy against the original. When we update the stove data, we compare every page's numbers with the EPA file before publishing.
  3. Show the source and the date. Each page links to where the information came from and says when we last checked it.
  4. Say what we haven't confirmed. If we couldn't confirm something on the official page, the page says so instead of guessing.
  5. Rank on data, not deals. Our stove picks come from the test numbers. Stores that pay us a commission get no better placement.

What we cover today

All 265 wood and pellet stoves certified for sale (EPA data checked Nov 1, 2026), burn rules for 14 areas (checked Nov 1, 2026), electric fireplaces, and the home-sale rules for old stoves. We add areas and products regularly.

What we're not

We're not installers, inspectors or lawyers, and nothing here is legal or installation advice. Before you buy, install or burn, check with your local building department, your air agency and a certified installer.
